Minor Repair Service
Habitat's Minor Repair Service (MRS) works in partnership with all Local District Health Boards (DHBs) to help address acute health issues that can be attributed to a cold, damp living environment. The vast majority of families supported live in rental housing.
Habitat receives referrals from the DHBs, undertakes a home visit and then provides the following free interventions for the householder as required.
- Home assessment and tenant advice
- Bubble wrap for windows
- Full length and lined curtains
- Draft stopping for windows and doors
- Spray bottles for treatment of black mould
A healthy homes report is sent to the landlord, identifying which ‘minor repairs’ Habitat can perform under the service and which are solely the landlord's responsibility (such as insulation). Habitat’s Landlord Liaison Officer then follows up with the landlord to support both the needs of the family and support the landlord to improve the property.
